Sedimentary rock forms in LAYERS! The earth's surface is constantly being eroded, the rocks are broken into smaller pieces by wind, water and ice. These small pieces of rock turn into gravel, pebbles, sand and clay. They tumble down with run off. These pieces ettle in a new place and start to pile up the sediments into flate layers. These layers are pressed together. Most sedimentary rocks form under water.
It is formed slowly by wind, water or ice. Fossils can be found in sedimentary rock.
Sedimentary rocks that 4th graders need to know.
We examine the lines on a Hershey Hugs and decided that it can remind us of the layers in sedimentary rocks!
